A bull elk under a full moon setting moments before sunrise in the Madison River Valley in Yellowstone National Park. This rare convergence of sunrise, setting moon and a huge bull elk I have not been able to even come close to replicating in the 14+ years since.
Technology of 2008 made shots like this nearly impossible because elk aren't static creatures like the landscape in the low light of dawn before the sun, a fluke of luck allowed an executable but soft focus of a moving creature. Technology of 2023 allow sharpening of old soft images without image degradation. Happy I never tossed this slightly soft image because of lack of clarity.
This is one of my favorite captures of all time.
