Pride of Madeira (Echium fastuosum) or) Echium candicans) grow abundantly along the Monterey Peninsula and the Big Sur Coast. Little is known about the biology or invasiveness of pride-of-Madeira, but it appears to spread slowly into established native plant communities. unfortunately, the natives are still being choked out. Although beautiful, Big Sur’s nature would be better and healthier without them. That said, I really like the image.
